Battle of 'Freedom of Speech'

Now this is getting really interesting ! A battle has begun between militant secularists and Muslims using cartoons only - yes only cartoons and no weapons !! Both parties have spoken in favour of freedom of speech and decided to launch a cartoon crusade against each other. I hope in future all the wars are fought using cartoons ; instead of dropping bombs , cartoons will be dropped - how sweet !!

Militant secularists think Muslims are a threat to freedom of speech all over the world and hence they have decided to bash the Muslims big time. On the other hand, Muslims are quite new to such 'do whatever you like' freedom and hence they want to try the same medicine, which is consistently used against them, on the secular world. Now lets see who wins this cartoon war.

Personally I didn't know that Holocaust is such a taboo subject in the West and the denial of holocaust is illegal in many european countries. This is so sad that the West again sets a double standards for freedom by stopping people to talk about 'killing of Jews' and then asking people to be sarcastic about religion - that's what wise people say 'moving the goal-post'. I was shocked when the BBC newsreader, while interviewing Jordanian president, told that any denial of Holocaust, mocking of Jews etc. should be banned and then her next question was when Islam will learn to take sarcasm ? Excuse me, but I thought the word 'ban' doesn't exist in a free environment. This is the problem with militant secularists. They will ban anything that don't suit them and then preach about freedom and secularism. I want to quote few lines from one of my favourite reporters John Simpson(BBC) :

"Yet despite how it looks on television news, the response to the cartoons of the prophet Muhammad has mostly been non-violent so far.....

There are various similarities with the case of Salman Rushdie's book The Satanic Verses.

Much the same arguments were used then as now, about where freedom of speech ends and gratuitous insults begin.

Militant secularists clashed on air and in print with militant Islamists, each talking past each other.

....a number of European countries would not allow a deeply anti-Semitic book to be published, and have made it a criminal offence to deny the Holocaust.

Why should it not also be illegal to insult the Prophet? "

Now the Arab European League and a leading Iranian newspaper have decided to publish cartoons that attack Western values(!?) under the banner of freedom of speech. AEL declared in their website that from now on they will publish cartoons almost every day for the sake of freedom. Good news for freedom lovers !! 'Walking the thin line', an article by Dyab Abou Jahjahin in the AEL website, speaks the truth:

"Europeans think that freedom of speech is guaranteed in Europe, and that they are defending it against Islamic pressure. This is a view that is widely propagated and defended by groups from across the political spectrum. Reality, however, presents us Muslims living in Europe with another experience. Muslims and others in Europe can not say everything they often want to say and they risk being arrested and prosecuted if they do. Muslims and other religious people can not express their disgust from homosexuality and clearly state that they believe it’s a sickness and a deviation without being persecuted for being homophobic.

People in Europe are not allowed to do a free historical examination of the Second World War and the holocaust and freely express an opinion on it that is different than the dominating dogmatic line. Any attempt to have deviant historical examination of the holocaust will earn you the title of revisionist, anti-Semite and a jail sentence.

I am for the absolute freedom of speech everywhere, and that’s why I call upon every free sole among Arabs to use the Danish flag as a substitute for toilet paper. To illustrate every wall with graffiti making fun of everything Europe holds as holy: dancing rabbis on the carcasses of Palestinian children, hoax gas-chambers built in Hollywood in 1946 with Steven Spielberg’s approval stamp, and Aids spreading fagots. Let us defend the absolute freedom of speech altogether, wouldn’t that be a noble cause?"

All I can, Wish we could Bomb the Farakka On River Ganges !! People, think once, you ever heard that IND dare to plan any barrage like that let alone a building a real barrage. Now I feel like we better had stayed as an Autonomous part of PAK that would have at least saved us from the Ruthless Indian Oppression on the mutual rivers.

Freedom of speech is the freedom to speak freely without censorship.
